“It was an amazing experience and really nice to be able to claim the class victory. This was over expectation and we had really not expected such a strong finish,” said Mikael Bender.

Patrik Skoog drove the first part of the race and climbed steadily. The second half of the race saw Skoog being close to a big accident.
“There was a couple of drivers that spun right ahead of me in one of the fastest corners of the track. I managed to avoid it and gained a couple of positions. The race was overall really good, an amazing track and we got a lot of driving,” said Skoog.

Johan Löfqvist drove the second and fifth stint and had to fight hard with a cold in the arabic heat.
“It was physically really hard, but the race was awesome and this is by far the best I have ever done in motorsport,” said Löfqvist.

Gulf 12 Hours marked the first endurance race ever for GT cars at Yas Marina Circuit, a track the Swedish trio praises.
“There is no circuit in the world that can beat Yas Marina, you really have to be there in order to experience the awesomeness of it,” said Bender.

The next Gulf 12 Hours will be held in December this year and Skoog, Bender and Löfqvist is planning to be there again.
“The race really gave us a taste for more and we are aiming to race again in December, perhaps with an even better finish then,” said Skoog.

The Swedish duo qualified a class sixth with their Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, a position Skoog improved to second early on in the race.

Brunstedt and Skoog then remained in the top for the majority of the race, but the last driver change saw them unfortunately retiring due to a broken drive shaft.
“It was of course frustrating to retire, but the race was good until then and we were right in the top of our class,” said Brunstedt.

Marc Goossens and Maxime Soulet won the race, driving a Porsche 997 GT3 R, a mere 57 thousands of a second ahead of the closest competitors in a Ferrar 458 after three hours of racing.

Which team claimed the most podium finishes? Who is the king of overtaking? Who is the qualifying expert? Who has got the best average for the second race grid and much more.

Victories

1 [1] Linus Ohlsson

Second places

Rudholm dominates the number of second place finishes on eight, compared to three for Kristoffersson and two for Haglöf.

3 [2] Johan Kristoffersson
2 [1] Daniel Haglöf
1 [1] Linus Ohlsson
3 [3] Oscar Palm
2 [2] Johan Kristoffersson
1 [1] Robin Rudholm
1 [0] Roar Lindland

Podium finishes

Here is the key to Rudholm’s title, consistency, with an impressive 15 of 15 podium finishes. Rudholm finished outside the top two just once this year, while Kristoffersson is beaten on 13 podium finishes.

15 [9] Robin Rudholm
13 [9] Johan Kristoffersson
6 [3] Linus Ohlsson
6 [3] Daniel Haglöf
3 [3] Oscar Palm
1 [0] Roar Lindland
1 [0] Philip Forsman

Pole positions

Rudholm got back from the half-time statistics and ended up on an even four pole positions alongside Kristoffersson.

4 [2] Robin Rudholm

Qualifying average top ten

Champion Rudholm remains on top in the qualifying average with an average starting position of 1.6, an improvement of 0.2 since half-time, compared to Kristoffersson’s 2.0.

Oscar Palm, who had a tough season, impressed with third best qualifying average with average starting position five in the eight qualifying sessions of 2011.

1.6 [1.8] Robin Rudholm
2.0 [2.0] Johan Kristoffersson
5.0 [4.0] Oscar Palm
5.1 [6.5] Linus Ohlsson
5 [3] Johan Kristoffersson
3 [3] Linus Ohlsson
1 [0] Oscar Palm

Average finish top ten

Rudholm is not surprisingly on top with the best average finishing position of 1.7, while Kristoffersson drops to 2.3, much due to his penalty in the penultimate race of the year and the fourth place at Karlskoga.

-1.0 [0.0] Patrik Skoog

Victories team

Kristoffersson Motorsport beats Xlander Racing in the number of victories, despite Xlander Racing having two drivers, both claiming victories, in the form of Rudholm and Ohlsson.

8 [5] Kristoffersson Motorsport
7 [4] Xlander Racing

Podium finishes team

The Swedes faced a tough field with the very top of Porsche drivers in the world.
“It has been a productive weekend and I am pleased overall,” said Kristoffersson.

Kristoffersson crossed the line as 15th in the 30 car strong grid at Hockenheim.
“I had hoped for a better qualifying session, but I was not able to get a clear lap. But that’s the way when it is a completely new track and such tough opposition. The race worked fine, I had a strong race pace and was able to climb a couple of places,” said Kristoffersson.

Karlsson had a steep learning curve keeping in mind that his two seasons in Sweden, GT3 Cup Challenge last year and Carrera Cup this year, is his two ever racing seasons.
“The weekend has been really interesting and I have taken big steps forward. It was really a lot of fun to race at legendary Hockenheim with so strong opponents,” said Karlsson.

Karlsson qualified 26th and crossed the line as 24th, despite technical problems.
“The start went well and I followed Kristoffersson and some other drivers, but then the car just died. I had to restart it, but by then I had almost lost half a lap. It has overall been a good weekend, I improved my best time from the first test by several seconds. All in all a good end to the season,” said Karlsson.

Sean Edwards won the final race while Nick Tandy claimed the championship title with eight points over Edwards.

Carrera Cup Tyskland – Hockenheim – Top 5

1 Sean Edwards 18 varv
2 René Rast +1.426
3 Nick Tandy +3.769
4 Nicolas Armindo +4.674
5 Jeroen Bleekemolen +5.094

15 Johan Kristoffersson +42.114
“It is going to be a lot of fun and really inspirational to drive the German final. The competition is really tough and it is going to be a serious challenge,” said Kristoffersson.

Teknova is one of the partners behind the program, a Swedish company that has worked with Kristoffersson Motorsport during the season.
“Johan has shown an amazing confidence in his driving at the same time as he has got the characteristics of a winner. He challenged for the title in his first Carrera Cup season and he is worthy of a chance to prove his skills internationally,” said Bengt-Göran Johansson, Managing Director for Teknova.

Kristoffersson tested at Hockenheim last week in preparation for the final and had 2007 Carrera Cup Scandinavia champion Edward Sandström as coach.
“The test went better than our expectations despite the fact that it was Johan’s first ever visit to the track, he pulled off some really strong times at the end of the day. The track characteristics are completely different to the Swedish tracks. It is twice as long as the Swedish tracks and the speed is a lot higher. The track requires completely different settings on the car, something that is going to put engineer Ronnie Bergström to the test,” said team boss Tommy Kristoffersson.

Around 30 drivers are taking part in Porsche Carrera Cup Germany this year and Nick Tandy heads the championship table ahead of the final.

Schedule – Carrera Cup Germany final

“It was a great feeling to drive a car with such an incredible handling and power of the engine,” said Jonsson.

The 21-year-old became Volvo Original Cup Sweden champion 2009 and has raced in JTCC for the two past seasons.

The step from a 150 bhp JTCC car to a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup of 450 BHP is substantial.
“It is a big step from the SEAT that I drove this season, but I got along well with the car and I am really looking forward to the next season,” said Jonsson.

Porsche Carrera Cup general Thomas Johansson was present during the test and was impressed by Jonsson’s speed.
Champion Robin Rudholm reflects over the feelings for his third title – a feat he is alone on in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia history.
“The feelings have started to settle in. I have been able to take it easier and to claim a third title in three tries feels amazing. There were some factors taking against us, but we managed to secure the title under really hard pressure,” said Rudholm.

Rudholm crossed the line in the final heat of the year as champion after a season long fight with Johan Kristoffersson, a fight that has taken a lot of energy for Rudholm.
“Half the week after the final went to recovery. I was completely exhausted! I had an extreme racing hangover in combination with a rather hard team party that lasted long through the night. The sunday was tough, the monday as well. It was not until wednesday that things started to feel normal again,” said Rudholm.

The title also marks Xlander Racing’s fourth straight drivers title since the team joined the championship in 2008.
“When I left STCC as third in the championship 2009, it was very important to deliver results straight away in Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia. With two titles in the bag, Porsche and Xlander Racing was the right choice for my career. Xlander Racing has done an amazing job, a big thanks to Louise Freidestam, all the great mechanics, my engineer, M-tech and everyone else at Xlander Racing,” said Rudholm.

Where Rudholm is going to race next year is not set, but the planning for 2012 has already begun.
“One thing is for sure. Where ever I am going to race in 2012, the conditions are going to be the best possible in order to fight for championship victories,” said Rudholm.

Robin Rudholm’s season in numbers

6 victories
8 second places
1 third places
7 pole positions
6 fastest laps
Front row grid in all races
Podium finish in all races

“It feels very nice to end the season in this way,” said Haglöf.

But the weekend stared in traditional style for Haglöf this season with a problem. An oil leak forced him to sit out the first test session.
“We missed the first practice due to an oil leak, my first thought was just: not again. You can’t miss 20 minutes on these drivers, you just can’t catch up on a weekend then,” said Haglöf.

The Bilteknik Motorsport driver qualified sixth, a position improved by one place in the first race.
“The car was a lot better for the first race and I was fourth for a while. But I pushed a bit too hard, went off track and lost some places,” said Haglöf.

The second and final race saw Haglöf climbing a couple of more positions, securing third and the final podium.
“The team had got the car even better for the second racen and we were really on pace. I was fourth at the start of the race, but I managed to out-brake Linus Ohlsson and secured a podium,” said Haglöf.

Haglöf’s season has been filled with ups and downs. The first race weekend saw Haglöf losing a lot of ground on the leaders, a gap he never managed to get back from, despite an impressive pace in some races. The end result was sixth in the drivers championship.
“To end up in sixth in Carrera Cup is not a great result, but we have shown that we are fast and we have taken a couple of strong positions. If I look at the business side and the possibilities for the future, the season has been a success. We have got a lot coming and I am going to work really hard to create the right conditions for the team and sponsors in the future,” said Haglöf.

“We’ve managed a strong package for the second half of the championship and it is great to finish the season in this way and show that we belong in the top,” said Forsman.

The Team Tidö driver was strong in qualifying with second fastest time, just 0.162 seconds from pole position and 0.087 seconds faster than runner-up Johan Kristoffersson.
“It went really well, despite that my fastest lap wasn’t perfect,” said Forsman.

Forsman kept second in the first race but had to fight hard to keep Linus Ohlsson behind him towards the end of the race.
“I had a good start of the first race, but our tyres got worn a bit harder compared to the Xlander Racing drivers and I had to defend from Linus Ohlsson at the end of the race. It was tight, but I focused on getting the exits right and managed to stay ahead,” said Forsman.

Forsman finished sixth in the second race and climbed to seventh in the drivers championship.
“After all years in historical rallying, professional racing was a new programme for Team Tidö this season and after allt he problems in the early part of the season, we’ve been able to get closer and closer to the top and shown that we know what we are doing. I would not have said no to a couple of more races and the motivation for next season is great. I am already looking forward to 2012!” said Forsman.

Ohlsson secured third and fourth in the two final races of the year at Mantorp Park.
“I had good pace in the car and was able to climb to third in the first race after a poor start. I would have been able to get past Forsman at the end, but I didn’t get the clear overtaking opportunity that I needed. I chose to secure third and gain important points for the championship,” said Ohlsson.

The 20-year-old secured third in the championship with 29 points ahead of fourth placed Roar Lindland.
“It felt great to cross the finishing line, securing third overall. It has been a strong field in Porsche Carrera Cuo this year. Xlander Racing is really a champion team with first and third in the championship as well as team champions,” said Ohlsson.

Johan Kristoffersson claimed the last victory of the year after getting past Rudholm in the first corner. The both were close throughout the race and Kristoffersson secured the win with seven tenths.
“I am of course not pleased right now and it is incredibly sad that the title was decided by the stewards. But I am surely going to be pleased in a while and the season has overall been amazing,” said Kristoffersson.

Daniel Haglöf claimed the final podium in the final race of the year, just over four seconds behind Kristoffersson.
“It feels great. This is my favorite track and we lost unfortunately 20 minutes of practice due to an oil leak. But we fought back and a podium is the best we could hope for,” said Haglöf.

Linus Ohlsson finished fourth in the race and secured the bronze of the drivers championship.
“I did of course hope for better results this weekend. But I am pleased with third in the championship, that was my goal and I was able to secure it thanks to Xlander Racing,” said Ohlsson.

Oscar Palm was last man within top five ahead of Philip Forsman, Roar Lindland and Jan West. Patrik Skoog and Lars-Bertil Rantzow rounded off top ten.

The joy was double for Xlander Racing with Rudholm’s drivers title and the team title with nine points more than Kristoffersson Motorsport.
“We’ve had an outstanding season and we can’t be anything but pleased. Robin has done an amazing job, the season could not have ended in a better way,” said Louis Freidestam, team boss of Xlander Racing.

“I am really pleased. The victory provides us with perfect conditions for the final race, but it isn’t over until it is over. We are going to go flat out in the second race,” said Rudholm.

Rudholm started from pole and took the lead in the first lap. Kristoffersson seemed to be quicker and put hard pressure on Rudholm and got past on the second lap.
“They said on the radio that Johan had got black flag, so I let him past and was able to back off and claim pole for the second race with fastest lap,” said Rudholm.

The race directors judged that Kristoffersson had rolled from his grid position right ahead of the start and penalized him with a drive through penalty which meant that he lost from the lead to last position.
“This is a miscarriage of justice, it was for sure not a jump start,” said Tommy Kristoffersson, team boss of Kristoffersson Motorsport.

Kristoffersson managed to climb from last to tenth position in the end and secured 11 points, keeping the title fight alive for the second race. Rudholm heads the championship with 21 points over Kristoffersson with 30 points left to fight for.
“I would have been in the lead of the championship without my penalty and we would have been able to fight for it on the track. But the stewards decided to take the lead role instead. I was standing still at the start. But we’ll have to try and win the second race,” said Kristoffersson.

Philip Forsman claimed second behind Rudholm after a hard fight between Linus Ohlsson towards the end of the race.
“I am really pleased. We have got the setup perfect, so it works really well,” said Forsman.

Ohlsson started fourth but lost two places in the start. The Xlander Racing driver managed to fight back up through the field, but was not able to get past Forsman.
“I made a terrible start and lost a lot. But I managed to get back up and I am really pleased with the race,” said Ohlsson.

Oscar Palm claimed fourth ahead of Daniel Haglöf and Roar Lindland. Mattias Stålknapp crossed the line as seventh ahead of Lars-Bertil Rantzow and Niclas Olsson.

Rudolm is going to start first in the second race, Kristoffersson second, Ohlsson third, Palm fourth and Patrik Skoog fifth.

“It feels just perfect. My engineer Ulf got me a great car and I am really pleased,” said Rudholm.

Title rival Johan Kristoffersson was not able to match the pace of Rudholm and was just over two tenths behind in third.
“I think we managed a pretty good qualifying, but I took it a bit too easy. But no points have been awarded yet, we’ll take it tomorrow,” said Kristoffersson.

Philip Forsman impressed with his best result of the season in the qualifying session and got in between Rudholm and Kristoffersson in second.
“It went really well, despite that my lap wasn’t perfect. But we still need to find just over a tenth and I hope to get that for the race,” said Forsman.

Linus Ohlsson, who was fastest in the test, was fourth fastest and is going to start right ahead of Oscar Palm.

Daniel Haglöf was sixth fastest ahead of Patrik Skoog and Mattias Stålknapp. Roar Lindland and Jan West rounded off top ten.
